A Midsummer Night

Are you sure
That we are awake? It seems to me
That yet we sleep, we dream.

– William Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Behind the Roll

I had just finished wrapping up a sunset shoot when some indistinct sounds suddenly caught my attention. As I inched closer, the sounds transformed in clarity, evolving into the jovial shouts of children, the sound of water impacting concrete, and the buzzing of the construction occurring in the background. The lights were blinding… altogether making for quite the cacophonous scene. Yet, to me, everything seemed so… calm. It was as though in the movies when time seemingly turns sluggish and the character truly takes in every detail. On this sultry night, people of all ages were running and dancing through the falling water… shouting in joy as the lights glimmered in the droplets. The night seemed dreamlike to me, especially when juxtaposing this scene with the tumult all around the world right now. Nevertheless, I’m sure the people there that night will remember the feeling — I hope I captured just a bit of that.
